Cub Recruiting Tips

Recruiting Tips - October 2010

Recruiting resources are listed on the web at . You will also find the electronic recruitment materials ordering form on this website.

2010 Pack recruiting incentive is an opportunity for at least 15 Cubs and at least two adult leaders to attend a Base Camp open house session if the pack achieves their youth membership goal (as de-termined by the district membership committee) by 10/31/10. Additional Cub Scouts can attend for $7 each. There is no additional charge for more adult leaders or parents since they will be providing su-pervision for their Cubs. View the Base Camp website at www.ExploreBaseCamp.org if you are not familiar with this new facility. Qualifying packs will be notified in early November with de-tails. Here are some tips and techniques to help you with follow-up youth recruiting plans. Refer to the ideas for Marketing your Cub Scout Pack on pages 18-21 of the 2010 Fall Youth Recruitment Guidebook for more details at http://www.NorthernStarBSA.org/roundup

  1. Ensure you enter your follow-up recruiting event information, next pack meeting or fun event into the online Youth Recruitment Planner (YRP) at https://www.NorthernStarBSA.org/planner. Re-cruitment fliers and other recruiting materials can also be ordered from this website. If you do not have access to this site, you can request access on the home page. The secure YRP site automatically updates the www.AdventureIsCalling.org and www.JoinCubs.org public Scouting unit locator sites.
  2. If you have access to a school or church list (electronic file or labels preferred) of boys grades 1-5 we can assist you in sending a special direct mailer promoting your joining event.
  3. Churches associated with your pack are a good place to promote your program… Sunday bulletin inserts, table display accompanied by pack leaders in between services, fliers & boy talks in Sunday school classrooms, etc.
  4. Plan a den party follow-up recruiting event
    • Bunches of 8-10 Cub Scout invitation post cards (intended for personal delivery by current Cubs) are available at from the council.
    • Den leaders ask their current Cubs to invite friends to an October den meeting (current Cubs earn the Centennial Recruiter Patch and official Recruiter Uniform Strip for recruiting a buddy).
    • The party plan is at http://www.NorthernStarBSA.org/roundup  unit resources area.
  5. Review your list of families that did not sign-up at the recruiting event, but expressed interest in joining. Personally contact them to join.

Contact your district membership chair or district executive for assistance with any of the above or call the Scout Office at 763-231-7201.

Have Lunch with Your Cub Scout Day

Here’s a recruiting idea - oraganize a “have lunch with your Cub Scout Day” at your school. Have several parents arrange to have lunch with their young scout, wear your uniform, have the scouts wear theirs. Be prepared to talk about scouting, it’s sure to generate some interest and questions.
