2008 Target Community Partner Grant

Northern Lights District is pleased to announce that it has been selected to be the recipient of a 2008 Target Community Partner Grant. This grant will help Northern Lights District and Northern Star Council continue to deliver quality programs and opportunities to boys in our communities.

This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. Since opening its doors, Target has given 5 percent of its income to organizations that support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today that translates to more than $3 million every week.

It is an honor to be recognized and chosen for this grant and we look forward to the partnership of helping better serve our neighbors and the communities we live in.

Happenings in the District

Did you know Northern Lights District has its very own puppet team? The team consists of Leaders Ryan Schmitt and Justin Zimitsch. Puppeteers: Michael Lindgren, Andrew Pierson, Zach Pierson and Ross Haugburg They started their run on the circuit this summer with a program at the Rockford Road Library. It started with monster skits and ended with the monsters reading to the kids.

The team then made the rounds at Como Zoo day with a show of Stranger Danger and Interview with a Monster…A crowd pleaser. Their next show will be Nov 1st at Living Word Academy in Brooklyn Park. They will be performing for children of members of the National Guard and reserves, who have one or more parents deployed overseas.

If you are 14 or older, male or female and are interested in joining the puppet team, Contact Francis Schmitt at 533-7724

Fall Camporee a Huge Success

A record number of kids and leaders turned out to the Rum River Scout Camp to join in the Fire Safety Camporee. The kids were able to experience a fire escape house, building safe fires, fire extinguisher safety, fire hose target games and complete their fire safety merit badge. The activities were conducted through a massive coordination of local fire departments and community organizations including Dayton, Elk River, Ramsey, Osseo, Brooklyn Park, DNR, the forest Service and OA. A huge thanks to Don Peterson for taking on this huge challenge and making it such a wonderful success.
