Kick off to the Program Year
The Northern Lights Annual Corn Feed will be held on Wednesday, August 15th at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Hwy. 100 & 42nd Avenue. As usual it will be a great time to get together with many of our district’s unit leadership. The roundtable staff will be hosting a short program and there will be plenty of corn and hotdogs to eat. Fellowship will kick-off at 6:00 pm and dinner will start at 6:30 pm. We will also be hosting our Fall Youth Round-Up Training for all Cub Scout Packs and have our introduction to this years fall popcorn sale. Units please have somebody attend this informational session.
FYR training will require all of our Cub Scout Packs to come prepared with these three things: The date of your Pack’s recruitment night, which schools you plan to recruit from and when their open houses are, and finally all the information you need to place flyer orders that night. Training will begin at 7:00 pm. For more information please contact our Membership Chair, Tim Hammelman at (763) 593-1880.
The fall popcorn program sale starts September 30th and continues through October 31st. We need a contact person from your unit who will coordinate this year’s sale. We are looking to get more units involved with this great chance to raise some money for the unit and help out with expenses. We had a great sale last year, and expect to set records this year. Please contact Carol Bach, District Popcorn Chairman for more information at (763) 428-4247.

Cubannapolis, What a BLAST!!!
27 Boys and about 50 parents and siblings were present. The night started with water balloons, then water bottle rockets followed by the big race. At least 10 packs were represented and had a great time. The race was followed by root beer floats for everyone. The district would like to extend a race car thank you to Leif Klang and Gene Stobbs for the great work organizing this event. A huge thanks goes out to the volunteers, the kids, and parents for making this happen.
The district would like to thank Cindy Taylor, Mike and Rachel Muntean and all of their great volunteers for their hard work at our June district day camp. A Northern Star Moment from Troop 584:
Our Troop recently went whitewater rafting with Superior Whitewater in Carlton, MN on May 19 (www.minnesotawhitewater.com). We set a record for coldest air temp, at 39 degrees. The water was 55 and was steaming and blowing so much it looked like snow drifts across the water! 15 of our Scouts and leaders went on this day trip and, other than really cold hands and feet, had a fabulous time.
I encourage units of Northern Lights to shares pictures of activities or great articles and send them to your District Executive, Johnny Allen Jr at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or, you can mail them at 5300 Glenwood Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55422; att: the Northern Lights District Executive We want to share your projects with the rest of the Northern Lights District.
